The Art Of Layering Moisture

Before we start here’s a tip for when you're introducing new products in to your skincare routine: It’s a great idea to introduce one new product at a time to your skincare ritual, so you can figure out if any products are giving you an adverse reaction.
Moisturising is an integral part of skin health, but which order should we layer in?
Our rule of thumb? Thinnest to Thickest
Facial Mist > Serum > Facial Oil > Moisturiser
1.
Facial Mist - Rose Otto, suitable for all skin types

Our Rose Otto Hydrosol facial mist is rich in the floral aroma of roses, that is because it is pure rose! Rose otto hydrosol is distilled using flowers from certified organic rosefields in bulgaria. This beautiful liquid is 100% pure & is manufactured by double distillation of the oil bearing rose (rosa damascena p. Miller). It is produced exclusively for this highly fragrant rose water. Rose otto is perfect on a hot day for cooling down & can be used as a luxurious alcohol free toner after cleansing for pore refining.
2.
Serum - Hyaluronic, suitable for all skin types.

Our Hyaluronic serum is not just hyaluronic acid! It contains pre biotics to feed your skin’s good bacteria and calendula which aids in skin healing.
Hyaluronic botanical serum is hydrating and skin balancing. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and generally decreases with age. In the skin it exists in the epidermis and keeps the skin hydrated and supple due to its high water retention ability. It plays an important role in delivering actives through the skin as it absorbs up to 1000 times is molecular weight in water.
3.
Facial oil
Oil on my face? Yes, yes, yes!
Here’s a perfect little explanation of why facials are so damn good, from Sigourney Cantelo at Beauticate
“The reason oils are so amazing is that our skin naturally produces oils and lipids to protect the skin and allow it to replenish. Adding oil complements and supplements this process. Oils are also hydrophobic, meaning they prevent water from escaping. They seal moisture into the skin while keeping allergens and pathogens out. This strengthens the all-important skin barrier. In addition to that, different oils do different things for your skin, as I have discovered, working my way through bottles of facial oils over the years.”
Our Oils…
Nurture Elixir - Dry/Normal/Mature skin types
Nurture is mix of luxurious plant derived oils including organic camellia, jojoba & argan. They contain essential fatty acids which boost skin barrier function, helping the skin retain moisture while also encouraging skin cell growth. Seabuckthorn berry CO2 extract is recognised for its outstanding cellular regeneration properties. With a unique composition of vitamin E, carotenoids, beta-carotene & essential fatty acids, it works synergistically to support the skin & improve suppleness. Rose geranium & jojoba help to balance the production of sebum reducing the risk of outbreaks. Calendula & precious Jasmine Sambac oil are healing & hydrating.
Balance Elixir - All skin types
I have oily skin, so should I avoid Moisturising?
No, absolutely not, when you have oily skin the instinct is to strip as much oil off your skin as possible, this is not a good idea. It will send the message to your skin to produce more sebum to replace the oil that has been stripped, it’s also really important to avoid harsh foaming ingredients in your cleanser. This can lead to your pores being clogged.
What Facial Oil should I use if I have Oily skin?
Use a face oil with jojoba oil or something similar to the skin sebum. This will help your body regulate the production of sebum and balance the skin. Our Balance Elixir uses a mix of precious oils to purify & balance the skin. Jojoba oil is rich in vitamin E & has a very close chemical composition to the skin’s sebum. It is suitable for all skin types, but especially for skin that is prone to breakouts. The blue colour of this serum is called azulene, which is a compound found in yarrow & tansy. The oil turns vibrant blue when it is steam distilled. Due to the azulene found in blue tansy & blue yarrow this serum has excellent antibacterial qualities & is great for reducing redness, as well as speeding up the healing process for inflamed skin. Lavender promotes healing & argan is a source of essential fatty acids which hydrate skin.
